I write to ask you take a role in helping identify recipients for IEEE CIS Awards!

Nominations for the IEEE Technical Field Awards, including the IEEE Frank Rosenblatt Award, are also due on this date. 1. Neural Networks Pioneer Award
- Award Description: To recognize significant contributions to early concepts and developments in the Neural Networks field.
- Prize: $2,500 honorarium, Medallion and travel support for recipient and companion to attend presentation. Up to three (3) awards made annually.
- Funding: Funded by the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society.
- Eligibility: Open to all.
- Basis for Judging: Significance of contribution made at least 15 years prior to award date.
- Presentation: At International Joint Conference on Neural Networks.

2. IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks Outstanding Paper Award
- Description: To recognize annually the outstanding paper published in the IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks in the previous two-year period.
- Prize: $1,000, to be split equally among co-authors and Certificate to author or co-authors of selected paper.
- Funding: Funded by the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society.
- Eligibility: Authors of all papers published in the IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks are eligible. The paper must have appeared in the previous two year period. A paper selected for the award is not eligible for a second award in the following year.
- Basis for Judging: Overall quality.
- Presentation: Awards winners will be announced publicly in the IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks. Additional recognition will be given at awards ceremonies at the annual IEEE International Joint Conference on Neural Networks.

3. IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems Outstanding Paper Award
- Description: To recognize annually the outstanding paper published in the IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems in the previous two-year period.
- Prize: $1,000, to be split equally among co-authors and Certificate to author or co-authors of selected paper.
- Funding: Funded by the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society.
- Eligibility: Authors of all papers published in the IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems are eligible. The paper must have appeared in the previous two year period. A paper selected for the award is not eligible for a second award in the following year.
- Basis for Judging: Overall quality.
- Presentation: Awards winners will be announced publicly in the IEEE Transactions on Fuzzy Systems. Additional recognition will be given at awards ceremonies at the annual IEEE International Conference on Fuzzy Systems.

4. IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation Outstanding Paper Award
- Description: To recognize annually the outstanding paper published in the IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation in the previous two-year period.
- Prize: $1,000, to be split equally among co-authors and Certificate to author or co-authors of selected paper.
- Funding: Funded by the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society.
- Eligibility: Authors of all papers published in the IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation are eligible. The paper must have appeared in the previous two year period. A paper selected for the award is not eligible for a second award in the following year.
- Basis for Judging: Overall quality.
- Presentation: Awards winners will be announced publicly in the IEEE Transactions on Evolutionary Computation. Additional recognition will be given at awards ceremonies at the annual IEEE International Conference on Evolutionary Computation.

5. Evolutionary Computation Pioneer Award
- Description: To recognize significant contributions to early concepts and developments in the field of evolutionary computation.
- Prize: $2,500 honorarium, Medallion and travel grant for the honoree and companion to awards ceremony. Up to three (3) awards made annually. Funding: Funded by the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society.
- Eligibility: Open to all meeting the contribution requirements: contributions must have been made at least 15 years prior to award date.
- Basis for Judging: Overall quality. Presentation: Awards winners will be presented at the next IEEE International Conference on Evolutionary Computation.
6. Fuzzy Systems Pioneer Award
- Description: To recognize significant contributions to early concepts and developments in the field of fuzzy systems.
- Prize: $2,500 honorarium, Medallion and travel grant for the honoree and companion to awards ceremony. Up to two (2) awards made annually. Note: Travel grants will follow IEEE guidelines. A fixed amount is not listed, since some recipients live near presentation sites, but others must travel overseas. The amount will be capped based on individual needs, IEEE guidelines, and the yearly budget allocation by CIS.
- Funding: Funded by the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society.
- Eligibility: Open to all meeting the contribution requirements: contributions must have been made at least 15 years prior to award date.
- Basis for Judging: Overall quality. The high prestige of this award mandates a full case development for the nominee's achievements, including significant External letters of recommendation for the nominee.
- Presentation: Presented at the next IEEE International Conference on Fuzzy Systems.
7. Meritorious Service Award
- Description: To recognize meritorious service to the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society.
- Prize: $1,500 and Certificate. Up to two (2) awards made annually.
- Eligibility: Must be or have been a member or associate member of an IEEE Society
- Basis for Judging: Exceptional administrative, managerial and leadership achievement; proposal and/or implementation of innovative new NNC programs; dedication to the growth and advancement of CIS and its geographic and technical entities.
- Presentation: Presented at an IEEE CIS International Conference.

8. Outstanding Chapter Award (established 2004)
- Description: To recognize the chapter that is judged to have provided the greatest overall contribution and service to its members; the local scientific, professional, governmental, and educational communities; and the IEEE CIS.
- Award: The award is and consists of $2,000 prize given to the Chapter and a recognition certificate issued in the name of the winning Chapter and each of the Officers.
- Funding: Computational Intelligence Society.
- Eligibility: All CIS Chapters are eligible.
- Basis for judging:
The achievements that will be evaluated in a comprehensive way are:
1. the list of activities that have been actually realized,
2. the innovative ideas to promote CIS and serve the local scientific, professional, governmental, and educational communities,
3. the dissemination activities about the chapter and society events,
4. the ability of chapter to recruit and retain members.
Each aspect composing the global evaluation of the Chapter performance should be briefly described by providing appropriate information, as follows:
1. the list of realized activities should be described by specifying at least type, title, dates, location, scope, and number of participants for each event,
2. the innovative idea for a realized activity should be described by specifying at least type, title, dates, location, scope, number of participants, benefits, role of the Chapter, outcomes, and novelty with respect to conventional Chapter activities.
3. the dissemination activities consists of the Chapter web site,
4. the recruitment/retention ability should be described by the Chapter membership development plan and the result of these actions. All material submitted for the evaluation must be in English. The achievement time period is the prior calendar year. The same Chapter will not receive the award more than two consecutive years.
- Nominee Solicitation: Chapter Chairs must apply to the award by sending applications to the Chair of the IEEE CIS Awards Committee.

9. Outstanding PhD Dissertation Award (established 2004)
- Description: To recognize the PhD dissertation that is judged to have given the most outstanding contribution to the advancement of theory and/or applications of computational intelligence.
- Award: The award is annual, and consists of $1,000 prize and a recognition certificate.
- Eligibility: All PhD dissertations in theory and/or applications of computational intelligence for which the PhD degree has been granted up to the fourth year (included) prior to the calendar year when the recipient of the award is selected are eligible.
- Basis for judging:
The achievements that will be evaluated in a comprehensive way are:
1. PhD dissertation,
2. publications in journals and conference proceedings generated by the research reported in the PhD dissertation,
3. other outcomes that constitute tangible items usable by the scientific and professional communities,
4. referee letters by scientists or professionals who have not been involved in the research performed by the applicant/nominee. Each aspect composing the global evaluation should be listed in the application/nomination and provided with the application/nomination itself, as follows:
1. information about the PhD dissertation (title, university)
2. list of publications in journals and conference proceedings generated by the research reported in the PhD dissertation, in the IEEE format,
3. list of other outcomes that constitutes tangible items usable by the scientific and professional communities, in addition to the one listed in item 2,
4. list of referee letters by scientists or professionals who have not been involved in the research performed by the applicant/nominee,
5. electronic copy of the PhD dissertation,
6. electronic copy of the publications in journals and conference proceedings generated by the research reported in the PhD dissertation,
7. electronic copy of the other outcomes that constitutes tangible items usable by the scientific and professional communities,
8. electronic copy of the referee letters by scientists or professionals who have not been involved in the research performed by the applicant/nominee.
All material submitted for the evaluation must be in English.
- Nominee Solicitation: Candidates must apply or be nominated to the award by sending applications to the Chair of the IEEE CIS Awards Committee. Applications/nominations may be resubmitted up to three times.
