Special issue on Computational Intelligence and Soft Computing

Computational intelligence and soft computing are emerging fields that consist of complementary elements of fuzzy logic, neural computing, evolutionary computation, machine learning, and probabilistic reasoning. Because of their strong learning and cognitive ability as well as tolerance of uncertainty and inaccuracy, computational intelligence and soft computing techniques have found applications in a wide range of problem domains. The field has been growing rapidly with a strong participation of researchers in management, mathematics, physics, computer science, finance, linguistics, neuroscience, biology, psychology, cognitive science, and a variety of engineering disciplines.

The International Journal of Information Systems for Logistics and Management (JISLM) is planning to publish a special issue on Computational Intelligence and Soft Computing. We invite the submission of full length and short correspondence papers that will detail the state-of-the-art development, creative technologies, and current trends in computational intelligence and soft computing.

This special issue seeks high-quality original papers that contribute to computational intelligence and soft computing. This special issue will gather the latest research and development and address the up-to-date issues and challenges. Prospective papers should be unpublished and present novel, fundamental research offering innovative contributions either from a methodological viewpoint or from an application perspective. A submitted paper may be either theoretical or experimental; research surveys will also be considered. New, unusual, and hybrid approaches are particularly encouraged. Both theoretical (new algorithms, analyses, etc.) and applied (implementations, applications, etc.) papers to management, information systems, knowledge discovery, finance, operations research, logistics, and industrial applications are solicited.

All topics related to computational intelligence and soft computing are welcome. Specific areas from which papers are sought include but are not limited to:

• ant colony optimization,
• artificial life,
• complex systems,
• computation with words,
• evolutionary computation,
• evolvable hardware,
• fuzzy computation,
• granular computation,
• grey theory,
• neural computation,
• quantum computation,
• intelligent agents,
• learning classifiers,
• machine learning,
• multi-criteria optimization and decision making,
• pattern recognition,
• probabilistic reasoning,
• swarm intelligence.

The special issue will consist of peer-reviewed original contributions and peer-reviewed invited contributions of an explanatory/review type. We expect to have a fast reviewing process and publish the special issue less than one year after the submission deadline (see below).

Authors should submit an electronic copy (MS Word or PDF) of their complete manuscript by email to one of the guest editors, according to the following timetable:

• Manuscript Due: September 1, 2005
• Acceptance Notification: December 1, 2005
• Final Manuscript Due: January 1, 2006
• Publication Date: 2nd Quarter, 2006

International Journal of Information Systems for Logistics and Management (JISLM) is a new international research journal of Information Systems for Logistics and Management. The journal is published twice per year. It seeks to publish high quality, original papers in all areas of management including information systems, international business, finance and banking, telecommunications, logistics, tourism, hospitality, law for business and technology, and so on, which can be either theory-based empirical papers, review papers, case studies or issues of current concerns to managers. JISLM has assembled an international editorial board led by very well known scholars as advisory editors coupled with a strong group of associate editors. Editorial board members include excellent researchers and renowned scholars from universities in Kainan University of Taiwan and around the globe.

Instructions to Authors

1. Name(s) of the author(s): initial or given name first, and family name last.
2. Full mailing and e-mail address(es) of the author(s) should be given, at the institution where the research has been done. If the current mailing address differs, this should be supplied in a footnote.
3. Manuscripts should be written in English and use 12 point font. Manuscripts must be typed on one side of the paper in double or one-and-a-half line spacing throughout, with wide margins. Pages should be numbered consecutively. A duplicate copy should be retained by the author.
4. Abstract should be given with every article.
5. A list of no more than five keywords must be included.
6. Tables hardly ever need vertical lines. They should be numbered consecutively and have a self-explanatory title. In designing tables please take the column and page width of ISLM into account.
7. Figures should be numbered consecutively and have a self-explanatory caption. Special care should be given to the drawing. Except for a reduction in size, they will appear in the final printing in exactly the same form as submitted by the author. Exceptions are diagrams containing only formulae and a small number of straight lines (or arrows); these can be typeset. It is also possible to accommodate photographs.
8. Formulae should normally be displayed on a separate line and numbered, if referred to, in parentheses on the right. They should be typed.
9. Please avoid excessive use of footnotes. Other short notes can be incorporated in the text in parentheses or square brackets; lengthy notes can be presented as appendices.
10. References should only be made to literature with which there is a direct and important interface. Journal names should be written out in full. References should follow hanging indentation format. Examples of which are given below for a paper in a journal, for a book, for a contributed paper in a volume and for an unpublished but obtainable paper, respectively. In the list of references they are listed alphabetically, e.g.:

11. Authors should submit papers electronically. To do so, e-mail a copy of the submission as both Microsoft Word and pdf file attachment to one of the guest editor. The attachment must be ONE file that includes all components of the manuscript (i.e., title page, abstract, paper, endnotes, reference, appendices, tables, and figures).
12. Upon acceptance of an article, authors will be asked to transfer copyright of the article to the publisher. This transfer will ensure the widest possible dissemination of information. No page charge is made. Twenty reprints of each contribution are available free of charge. Additional reprints can be ordered. A reprint order form will be sent together with the proofs.
